Susan Jones writes romantic drama with a touch of humour, and historical sagas as Lydia King. She lives in North Warwickshire, and loves walking through the beautiful woodlands where she lives, and gardening and reading are her pastimes.

A Writer’s Journey: From Dreams to Published Novels

Hello and welcome to my website. Glad you found me and hope you stay a while to read all about me and my writing life.

I live in Warwickshire, and love to write stories that will keep you reading until the last page.

It all began in the garden, sitting under a huge apple tree. There I would sit on a blanket surrounded with books and a little dog called Judy. Grandparents were never far away, and being on a flower nursery gave me chance to wander among rows of chrysanthemums that were growing ready to go to market one day. Even now, decades later, the smell of those fabulous flowers takes me right back to Fishley Nurseries.

Starting with diaries and note books filled with stories and ideas for the books I would write one day, I loved the fairy tales and nursery rhymes told by the fire before we went to bed. Words and rhymes formed m childhood and made it special.

In English lessons at school, the teachers gave me great encouragement, adding confidence to my scribblings. Later, at high school, a ghost story with great feeling and description gave me a review from the teacher who said, ‘Someone has written a story, and this someone will go on to be a writer.’ I could hardly breathe, wondering, then he turned to me…

From letters in magazines, to full page articles, and poetry, this lead to becoming a pocket novelist for My Weekly who published 5 of my stories into full length novels. Ulverscroft publishers chose 2 titles for large print.

I write romance with drama and humour as Susan Jones, and as Lydia King, I write gritty historical dramas set in the midlands, where I grew up hoping to become a writer one day.

Always follow your dreams, then one day they will come true if you really want them to.
